Things got really complicated in the last weeks of the year, and my film intake was very limited by several circumstances, as was my time to write.
So instead of writing separate posts composed of very few films each, I’ve decided to compose a single one covering the whole of November and the first week of December.

You probably know I have a soft spot at this moment about Japanese films; this week I enjoyed the results of my purchase of three Blu-rays of movies I had already watched - in different times, plus a couple more available online.

Let’s just move on to the few films I managed to watch this week.

As I’m leaving any kind of creativity behind, caught in a storm of things to do and things to plan, I must say I really admire anyone who manages to have any sort of creative output.

Sometimes there are films everybody loves that I find very difficult to appreciate. I even have a special list on Letterboxd about ‘Known masterpieces I didn’t agree with’. It’s not a long list, but this week I’ve added one more entry.

Here’s a very delayed round-up of a week that happened oh so long ago.

My posts have become less and less frequent and their publication unpredictable.
Well, get ready for even less predictability, as I’m entering a rather complicated and uncertain period, during which I’m not even sure I’ll be able to write these roundups.

This week I have ramped up my absorption of French films, in preparation for my move from a partially-French-speaking country to a fully-francophone one.
I didn’t expect so many French films from the 2000s’ to look like they were shot in the eighties. But I probably need to look beyond Netflix to find some very good ones.

This was a holiday week, and I spent it around Italy, visiting new and old places, eating (of course), drinking spritzes and, of course, watching films.

Have you noticed how often horror protagonists try to get rid of curses by spreading them indiscriminately to unaware people? 

This factor is not new (think Ringu), but it seems to get more frequent at the end of last decade (even before the pandemic started); I can’t help but think this was a sign of our innate selfishness bubbling up. We should have been prepared for what was to come.
